Adults' Courses

From complete beginners to improvers

From complete beginners, to improvers, we have a class for you. Perhaps you recently decided to give sewing a go, or you've dusted off the sewing machine found in the back of the cupboard, now is the time to improve your skills. We run mixed ability classes for adults, during week days and in the evenings. 

​

We also run Parent and Baby classes (pre-crawlers only), plus speciality and seasonal courses too.

Beginners
Beginner
What you'll do
​

Have you always wanted to learn a practical craft? To make your own clothes, accessories, homewares? Then why not come along to this six-week class in Crouch End and learn how to sew in a relaxing and supportive environment?


During the course you will:

​

  • Learn about threading the sewing machine, winding and inserting bobbin

​

  • Build confident sewing skills

​

  • Work on a variety of projects, from a cushion, tote bag to pyjama bottoms.

​

  • Be ready to move on to our improvers' course

​

This beginner-friendly class will take a leisurely approach so that you have time to soak in all the information and put your knowledge into practice. 

At the end of the course, you'll have mastered the basics. With your new sewing skills under your belt, you'll feel confident in your abilities and eager to get started on more DIY projects and sewing sessions!

What to bring

  • Machines are provided but feel free to bring along your own machine provided it is less than 5 years old or recently serviced

  • Your own sewing kit to include sharp dressmaking scissors, pins, needles, tape measure and stitch unpick

 

Sessions

This class series runs over 6 consecutive sessions, which are 1 week apart.

Total cost

The cost is £270 and is for the 6 weeks

​

  • A tote bag

  • A pencil case / make up / toiletry bag

  • Pyjama bottoms

Improvers

What you'll do
​

Once you have completed our beginner course or are at an equivalent/higher level then this is the course for you.

 

You choose your own commercial pattern and fabric (under our guidance) and start exploring the exciting world of dressmaking.

 

However experienced we are, there are always skills to improve on -perhaps you have forgotten how to make a buttonhole, a collar or a placket? Or you may want to copy your favourite garment - this class is for you too.

During the course you will:​
 

  • Build confident sewing skills
     

  • Learn about fabric qualities and uses
     

  • Understand commercial patterns and how to adjust fit
     

  • Additional bespoke skills

Parent and Baby

Parent and baby classes

From complete beginners to improvers.

​

Bring your pre crawling babies and learn to sew in a relaxed setting. Projects will include a bib, sunhat, reversible trousers, dungarees/dungaree dress. All patterns and materials provided.

​

It's a lovely way to be with other parents, make new friends and have fun while you make something.

Term times

Our next term of sewing courses starts on Monday April 15th and runs for 6 weeks until May 24th
